1. For THAT coastal drive
Frequently voted as one of the best coastal drives in the world, the stretch of coastline between San Pietro and Salerno is full of steep cliffs, jaw-dropping vistas and beautiful towns.
And yes, the sea really is that blue (and will save you half an hour on Instagram choosing which filter to use).
Just don’t get too distracted as the driving conditions can be pretty hairy if you meet an oncoming local bus… 🙈
2. To get a taste of Amalfi ice cream
Italian ice cream / gelato is the world’s numero uno. Fact.
With pretty much every flavour under the sun, you’ll be able to get your fix when you visit the Amalfi Coast.

Take your chosen flavour (or flavours) out for a stroll in the sun and you’ve got yourself a perfect afternoon lined up.
3. To explore the beautiful Capri
The epitome of Italian glamour combined with a magical landscape of luminescent caves and rocky outcrops. This is Capri.
You haven’t really seen Capri unless you go by water. Jump on one of the boat trips that cover the perimeter of the island and make sure you don’t miss the Faraglioni ‘Dolce and Gabbana’ rocks and the Grotto Azzurra (Blue Grotto).
Want more? Check out Anacapri (get an open-air taxi up to avoid the long bus queues), hop on a chair lift up Monte Solaro mountain for 360 degree views, walk through the chic streets of Capri town and head to the viewpoint over the Faraglioni Rocks.
Top tip: Wear your chicest outfit, but your most comfortable shoes! A day return by ferry from Positano gives you about 8 hours on the island (earliest outbound and latest return), which isn’t long to pack in everything. So, forward planning is key unless you’re planning to stay a night or two on the island.
4. For all the Spritz
Yes, it’s true that the Aperol Spritz originated near Venice, but we think it’s even more brilliant enjoyed with views of the Amalfi sea, sunshine, sunsets, or, let’s be honest, at any time of day in this paradise.
Amalfi Spritz is unique to this part of Italy though: a limoncello take on the old classic. Il Pirata in Praiano offer a gorgeous seaside setting with an extensive Spritz menu.
5. To check out Franco’s Bar in Positano
Obviously there are loads of great bars along the Amalfi Coast. But there’s nothing quite like Franco’s.
A combination of relaxed vibes, reasonably priced drinks, complimentary bar snacks and a stunning view will make you want to come back every night.
Top tip: The bar is only open during the summer months. Get there for opening time (around 5pm) to bag the best table for sunset viewing 😎
6. To eat Italian sandwiches. Lots of Italian sandwiches.
If you’re doing the Amalfi Coast on a budget, it’s not as difficult as it may first seem.
The local supermarkets will often prepare fresh sandwiches for you behind the counter for a fraction of the price of those from a restaurant.
You can choose different types of bread and fillings that are perfect for lunch on the go. Parma ham, chorizo, mozzarella, tomatoes, prosciutto, smoked cheese…

7. You can visit historic Pompeii
Ok, so it’s not strictly located on the Amalfi Coast, but Pompeii is located en route to Naples so it’s an easy detour.
Leave about half a day to see the main sites within the ruins. You can even download an online self-guided tour and tailor it to how much time you have.
Top tip: There’s no dedicated parking. So, leave plenty of time to find a spot on local roads or to take public transport.
