Back in May, we asked you lovely lot a burning Q on Facebook: what are the best travel apps for planning a holiday?
My oh MY did you come up with the goods. Keep scrolling for a round-up of your faves – these pocket rockets are going to take the hassle out of planning and set you free to travel in the best way possible.
Talking of the best way to travel (spoiler: it’s on a Topdeck trip), now we’re another day closer to it being a reality it’s time to plan that mega trip rather than just dream it.
Don’t worry, be appy
Without further ado, here are the best travel planning apps chosen by you. FYI: unless mentioned otherwise, all recommended apps are free to download on Apple or Android.
Shout out to legendary Topdecker Andrew who suggested we feature your recommendations, saving us the job of sharing ours *spends rest of day on Skyscanner*.
Best for transport
Booked with Topdeck? Then everything’s covered – you just need to sort your flights.
Skyscanner: a must download. Compare the cost of flights and set up alerts to get the best deal poss. It’s a no-brainer.
Rome2rio: super-efficient search engine showing the different ways of getting from A to B, all over the world. Includes timings and prices. Possible witchcraft.
Best for organising
Channelling Marie Kondo? These apps will help you get your sh*t together.
Topdeck: obvs. Use it to manage your trip itinerary and track your spending. Plus – chat with the Topdeckers you’re going to be sharing the adventure with.
TripIt (basic account free) and TripCase (annual fee): feed them your booking confirmation emails and they magically create your travel itineraries so everything’s in one place. Super satisfying.
Best for navigating
Sometimes you want to go off-grid and explore for yourself. We get it.
Maps.me: all your map needs in one place. Use it to pin where you’re staying (useful during early a.m. memory loss), plot your routes and see info about nearby attractions. Works offline if your data’s running low. Win.
Sygic (basic account free): think Google Maps, but in 3D so you can see all the major sights popping up around you. Also works offline.
Citymapper: does what it says on the tin. Shows you how to get around cities via public transport, walking and cycling. Also handy for live updates about local travel disruption.
Best for inspo
Make the most of all that sweeeeet free time on a Topdeck trip.
Cool Cousin: awesome tips from the locals, including where to eat, drink and party.
TripScout: gathers articles and videos from around the web based on your trip, and gives you recs on things to see and do.
There we have it. Ditch those unused apps (*guilty stare at Duolingo*) and make space for these bad boys. Trust us: you’ll be needing them on your next adventure. So, where will it be?
