Oktoberfest, you beauty! The world’s biggest party takes over Munich (and other cities around the world) every year for more shenanigans than you can shake a litre-sized beer at. As if Oktoberfest couldn’t get any better, there’s the added bonus of the Oktoberfest fairground.
There’s over 200 rides, sideshows and games to get excited about. Stick around ’til the evening to see this place become a magical wonderland as the glittering lights provide a backdrop worthy of a new Instagram post.
4. Heaps of history.
It’s not all about the beer. Oktoberfest actually has a super interesting history that dates back as far as 1812. Woah!
The first round of festivities took place in Munich in 1812 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (who became King Ludwig I later) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Munich’s citizens were invited to join the celebrations – best wedding party ever!
5. You’ll make friends and memories to last a lifetime.
Dressed in your traditional Bavarian costumes, aka Lederhosen and Dirndl, it’s impossible not to get into the Oktoberfest spirit.
Get ready to sing and dance on benches, hug everyone you meet and generally have the best darn time with your travel mates. This’ll be a trip for the books.
